From @StainColoredThoughts instagram from 6/18:
Today I had my first photography gig for a dance recital. It just ended and I had an amazing time taking pictures of some super talented young ladies and a cute young lad. My cousin told me that a client needed a photographer and recommended me.
So I thought about it for a few hours wondering could I really do it. My curiosity won out over my nerves and I texted her last night to let her know I was interested in the opportunity. She asked me if I had done sport or fast action photography before. I answered no but would be grateful for the opportunity. She hit me back this morning and let me know that she was interested in me taking the pictures and after sharing some more Information, I sat on my bed and was thinking, holy crap.
I got up and
went to my favorite camera store and prayed they had a 70-200mm f2.8
canon lens available to rent. Thankfully they had three. While I was
there they recommended a monopods and I also decided to buy a fresh
memory card as well. One of my favorite salesmen was there and was a
lifesaver in regards to recommendations on camera settings.
The performance started at 2:30pm but I arrived a hour earlier to check out the layout of the theater. 3 hours and a whole lot of pictures later, we wrapped up.
Have to say thank you to my cousin Monica for recommending to her client Bridget. I was super nervous but after a while into it I was relaxed.
Sometimes you have to tell your nerves to just shut the hell up and jump. I jumped, and I'm glad I did.
